Every year starting February 1st, I do my best to come up with a post a day for an entire month.
When Gellibean was born, we were not prepared for her diagnosis.
I do this to share a little bit more about my parenting journey with Gelli.
I do this in the hopes that maybe some momma will search “Down Syndrome,” and find some honest words of comfort at a time when she needs it most.
I’ve been blogging now for a little more than four years. I’ve taken the personal commitment to write every day during the month of February for the past two years. I have been able to do this with the help of some of my friends. I have also asked my children to contribute posts here, so you can get an idea of how it feels for a sibling of someone with Down Syndrome to brave the world knowing their sibling has a little something extra that makes them extra special.
But just as she surprised us when she was born, she continues to surprise us with all of her achievements.
I do hope that you’ll follow my journey here through the month of February, so that perhaps, I can educate those who do not know much about Down Syndrome with facts rather than myths, and the more positive side to parenting a child with D.S. instead of what I remember hearing from the doctors when I was handed a diagnosis about all of the things my child wouldn’t be able to do.
I want to share Gelli’s triumphs.
Her successes.
And even in sharing her challenges, I hope that I can share them in a way where you can see the positive side to being gifted a child with an extra chromosome, and all the joy that extra chromosome brings to our family.
