Confession:
I don’t usually handle the finances at home (GASP!)
Admittedly, I don’t even like going to the ATM or even putting gas in the truck when I drive it.
I need things to be simple for me when it comes to handling the money and writing checks and paying the bills. This is one of the reasons why I never bothered with credit cards before.
My friend Kris over at the OC Mom in Manila is not just OC about germs and all things parenting, she is OC about handling financials like this. She is pretty smart when it comes to how to handle your money and what to invest in, and I suspect it is because she also hangs out with people like Rose Fausto.
That’s one of the things I need to work on as a mom. I think that in the kitchen I can run it like nobody’s business. I can throw some things together and have fun while I’m doing it. But when it comes to numbers (heck even balancing the check book can sometimes be challenging) something in me shuts down. I suddenly am transported back to that 7th grade math class where I realized that I was much better at reading the word problems than I was at solving them with ease, like my classmates.
So, I’m grateful for my friends like Kris, because I get to learn lots of different things from her.
After discussing all the different types of credit cards that one can avail of, from all the different types of banks, with some of The SoMoms, I realized that the UNIONBANK Cash Back Mastercard is perfect for a mom like me because it is just so SIMPLE.
Lots of other cards also have ways for you to earn cash back. Some might even have a higher percentage of what you can get back, but it always comes with some kind of stipulation. There might be a cap on how much you can earn, or it might only be on certain purchases from certain stores at certain times, when the moon is full and the sky is clear….(Say what?)
Ok. Joking about the moon and stuff…but you get my point right? Sometimes, the rewards aren’t EVEN cash back. (My husband had a card like that.) We had to claim our prize for being a credit card user from a catalog that listed how many points he had based on what he spent for that year. Needless to say, he doesn’t use that card anymore.
I’m a mom who has four kids. I blog and contribute to different publications. I volunteer a lot of my time to different orgs which cater to children and adults with special needs. I cook our dinners most every night. I pack my kids lunches every morning for school. (Hooray we are on summer break right now.) AND I have a toddler. (That last part right there is enough all by itself to want to keep things SIMPLE.)
So I NEED SIMPLE.
While paying with cash is simple enough, this particular credit card gives me the ability to have a built in discount no matter whether I’m using it in a store, or online.
Why did I think it was #TimeToSimplify?
- Unionbank CashBack Mastercard gives you 1.5% CASH BACK on all purchases. No matter how small. No matter how big. No matter what time.
- There is no cap. If you read the fine print for other cards you may have with the cash back option, you’ll see that you will get cash back up to a certain amount only. With Unionbank CashBack Mastercard there is no cap.
- Cash Back does NOT expire. You can redeem the cash back at any time. All you have to do is call the Customer Service line.
- Unionbank CashBack Mastercard can be used ANYWHERE Mastercard is accepted.
- Supplementary cards are super easy to request with a specified credit limit. (Perfect for growing teens who might want to buy their own make up with an allotted budget.)
Just today, I was in the mall to pick up this make up kit for Gia after our TEA for Teens workshop with Cristina Madara. I was standing there paying, and I remembered from my paperwork I received with my card that I can ask for a supplemental card for Gia so that she can make these approved purchases on her own.
I know that if I start giving her the responsibility early enough, that she will develop a better understanding of how credit cards work and the power to using the right credit cards properly.
So-aside from receiving my statement via email (which makes it really easy to keep track of my purchases) I can also apply for a supplementary card for one of the kids. That definitely makes it easy for me to keep track of the spending.
