As I have gotten older, my hair has started thinning out. I am not sure if it’s because I could be making better decisions with my diet intake, or perhaps it’s because I need to start taking supplements, but I have noticed that my ponytail’s diameter has gotten smaller and smaller.
One thing I know for sure is that I need to start taking better care of myself physically. That doesn’t just begin with a proper diet and exercise. I would like to think that I should take a more holistic approach to self care.
This includes taking better care of my skin (which I am doing with the help of our friends over at Aesthetic Science Clinic) and my hair.
When taking better care of my hair, I know it is also important to get regular haircuts and use the right products on my 44 year old scalp. Last year I got an air perm so I wouldn’t have to fuss so much over my coif. It made it really easy for me to wash and wear a style that was easy to maintain. When I first got my perm, I got tons of compliments on the natural looking waves that framed my face. I loved how easy it was to care for my hair because it was one less thing I had to worry about before walking out the door.
AVEDA and the hair care products they offer the discerning user has been around since 1978.
Founder, Horst Rechelbacher emerged as a leader in the beauty industry at the age of seventeen. Years of working with celebrity clients and a slew of salons led him to burn out and retreat to take care of his health. Always using a more holistic approach to beauty and to life, he believed that a person should not just feel beautiful, but also immerse himself in the beauty around him that is the world.
This holistic approach to thinking defined his career when we went to India to heal and discovered the science of Ayurvedic Medicine.

AVEDA is not just about hair. They carry essential oil and chakra balancing sprays, and lotions as well.
Using the principles of Ayurvedic Medicine, the foundation of herbology from his mother, and the desire to provide products that were not only good for the end user and good for her soul, his vision to provide plant infused health products took it one step further by making sure that even the production of these products, it was good for the environment.
And so was born, AVEDA, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences.
I have been an on again off again user of AVEDA products since I was in high school.
I learned about AVEDA from the salon I used to visit with my mom and would always take the opportunity to invest in these products when I had the chance.
Recently, I was invited to experience AVEDA with the newly opened BASEMENT SALON in Eastwood. They kicked off opening their new spot on the second floor with a celebration of all things wonderfully based in plant essences.
Pampering?
Time to get my hair done?
Yoga?
Chakra balancing?
Yes, please.
To all of the above.
Thank goodness my ex boyfriend was free to drive me to this event because we took the extra time in the car (TRAFFIC) with each other to listen to Hillsong, and catch up with the happenings of each of our days.
When I arrived, I was introduced to Klaus, the regional technical education manager for AVEDA. He walked me through the program for the day and gave me an idea of what to expect.
Alvin asked me to choose my Chakra scent which was then sprayed on my ceramic chakra bracelet. It was not only cute, but it served the purpose of helping keep my chakras balanced.
Now if you know yoga, or study healing, or understand reiki, you understand just how important it is to keep your chakras balanced.

I super love my new bracelet. It’s got a fun tassel and a peace sign to remind me always that I can achieve peace if I want to. MIND over MATTER.
I was so happy to get to spend some time with Rochelle and Michelle while we were being pampered.
Here in Manila, there are a select group of salons that carry AVEDA products. In addition to that, there are only a few of those places that offer specific treatments, too.
Basement Salon is one place (besides Greenbelt Experience Center) where you can enjoy a soothing scalp massage called Pramasana, a purifying scalp cleanser, and a nourishing scalp mask.
Unlike the other products that AVEDA makes available to us so that we enjoy that invigorating feeling when washing our hair, the INVATI line is only available for services in the Experience Center in Greenbelt and their partner salons.
After participating (in a very small way) with the girls from Yoga Tree Manila in a Moon Salutation, our services started with a light scalp massage..
There was a whole team of professionals from the salon who were there to pamper me and explain each step of the pampering process.
PRAMASANA is where your salon professional will use firm bristled brushes to massage the scalp which will not only remove dead skin, but also promote new hair growth.
After this rejuvenating treatment came my favorite part of going to the salon. I don’t know about you, but laying back with my head in the sink and a mini scalp massage is the most relaxing part of any salon visit. (Unless there is a shoulder and upper back massage involved, then it’s my second favorite part.)
After the massage and quick wash, the next part of the INVATI treatment was the nourishing scalp masque.
The application of the masque came with a quick massage for both my scalp and my hands simultaneously.
Can you say YASSS?
Say it with me now.
YASSSSS…..
Hehehehe.
I loved the entire process. And the outcome.
Don’t you?
I felt like my scalp and my hair were just given a quick pick me up. I think Nino liked it as well.
In fact, he said he wanted to take me out for a nice dinner and we even ended up making a date out of it by going to Nikkei.
If you would like to avail of the same delicious treatment that I was gifted, you can visit The AVEDA Experience Center in Greenbelt, the Basement Salon in Eastwood, and all partner salons.
