Back to School with NBS - Momma 'N Manila

It’s Back to School with NBS! This is such a fun time of year for us, mommas. We see the light at the end of the tunnel. We feel the excitement that the kids will soon be back in school, giving us a little more time to relax (or work), getting back in that routine of sleeping early and waking up just as early because everyone just needs a little more sleep during this time of year.

When I was a kid, I LOVED going back to school. I loved doing all the school shopping with my momma. Sharpening all my pencils. Fixing my Trapper Keeper (am I dating myself?) with all my dividers for each subject. Picking out the cutest erasers I could find, and of course using my mom’s brown paper grocery bags to cover all my textbooks.

By the end of the year, you would see the all the doodles and drawings, notes and even boys’ names that I might have a crush on, colored onto the brown paper bags which covered the text books that I would return when the school year came to a close.

I visited the newly remodeled @nationalbookstore in @smnorthedsa today to check out all the #BackToSchool offers with some of my friends. But the craft loving pencil and pen hoarding person that I am, I could not avoid perusing some of the goodies that Mommas like me ❤. And of course, the end of the year brought on the childhood excitement of no schedules, no bedtimes, playing outdoors until it was dark and freedom from homework. Until the cycle of a new school year began again…

BUT as a MOMMA??

I LOVE this time of year!!

Wait. Did I say that I LOVE this time of year????

I love shopping for uniforms. School Shoes. New white socks. Sewing on patches. (Ok, I don’t sew them on, because the nice lady where I buy the uniforms can do it for me.) Shining those new shoes. Covering books with easy on adhesive. (It’s different now) Making labels for everyone’s notebooks. Packing lunches. Searching recipes to surprise the kids when they open up their Yumboxes.

Even fun things like these can be found in their lunchbox section. These are the perfect size. Come in a pack of 12. And can fit INSIDE the Yumbox containers that I send with each of the kids to school.

I have always said that the kids need routine. They need rules. They need structure. And going back to school provides all of that and more. (Plus it also means I get to go on brunch dates with my girlfriends again.)

So when I go school shopping for my kids who all range in age from Kinder to COLLEGE, (Yes, you read that right.) I always like to make it easy on myself by visiting National Bookstore.

As an emerging writer, Gelli needs help with ergonomically correct pencils and pens. These are great tools to help her write!

They have everything I need from Gelli who is entering kindergarten to Gia who is in finishing up her first year at university.

Gia was asking for a fun zippered pencil case to replace the one she has. I thought this one was cute, but it was a little too big for her. BUT it’s perfect for me!

You know what else has changed? The way we shop for this time of year too.

Gosh, it was so easy for me to get distracted. I saw these duct tape kits that the kids LOVED using before. I had to focus my efforts to remain on task for school readiness!

GONE are the days where I would bring everyone to the mall and brave the crowds with a 6 year old (who can’t sit still for very long) and pouting teenagers who would rather be playing Fortnight, or talking to their girlfriends on the phone.

Instead, my kids text me their lists or send me photos of the things they need and the things they want.

And if I get confused? I face-time them, so I am sure to buy the right things.

Is that easy? Or is that easy?
