BGC has a new kid in town.
Only this kid is about 90 years old.
Calligaris is a company that started many years ago with a simple chair in Friuli, Italy.

Calligaris Furniture began with the Marocca chair in 1923. Since then, they have expanded production to include tables, beds, sofas, storage units, and decorative accessories.
Calligari is not just a furniture company that has three generations of experience, workmanship, and design under its belt. It’s a company that has had the ability to change and meet people’s needs as their living spaces have changed as well. Having galleries and partners for their ever evolving line of furniture is a testament to the quality and the versatility of their designs.
I was invited to the opening of the newest gallery last March 12th. Alessandro Calligaris, together with Florence Ko opened the doors to the newest location in The Clipp Center where Calligaris has found a new home. Florence Ko is no stranger to well made Italian designs. She is the vibrant personality behind the luxury home store Furnitalia, Space 2000, and lighting specialist store, Lucern.

Alessandro Calligaris, third generation furniture producer, and Florence Ko welcomed us into the show room by explaining the history behind the company which has turned Calligaris to a worldwide brand.
I will be honest. Nino and I are in the beginning stages of planning for a new home. We would like to build a home that is a better fit for our growing family. (No, I’m not pregnant. Our kids are just getting bigger.) So I had every intention to attend this event, to not only share what I learned about Calligaris with y’all, but also to scope out any pieces that might be good to book mark and revisit when we are ready to furnish a new place.
What really struck me about the brand was the versatililty of some of the pieces. There was this one coffee table that I was telling Nino about. It was really a coffee table designed for a dual purpose. Like, say you had a few more guests over than your normal dining table could accommodate? This particular coffee table has the option for an adjustable height which allows you to sit on the sofa and have dinner on a higher table, instead of crouching uncomfortably over a lower coffee table. I took a video of the staff adjusting the table, but I won’t show it here because my angle ended up having a butt shot. Whoops!

I also liked the way that some of the dining tables could easily expand from a 4 or 6 seater to a 10 seater.
I also shot a video of which the staff at the show room demonstrated how easy it is to convert a dining table to accommodate more people. Check it out.
Much of what I saw in the showroom had both form and function. I liked to see that the designers who Calligaris has partnered with all have an eye for the different mediums in design. I liked the warm of the wood that was also mixed with the different textured fabrics and leathers, and I could appreciate the the different metals and glass that were incorporated into the designs.
Here is where you can ask for help when you are visiting the Calligaris showroom. Say you have an idea of what you want, but aren’t quite sure how it will all come together. You know you like leather, but aren’t sure what color or exactly what design.
Or, maybe you know you want a certain color sofa and you aren’t quite sure how it will look in your living room…
It’s easy to consult the interactive totem to find the look that you want, with the finish, and the materials that fit your taste. After you have found the piece that you desire with all the details you are fond of, you can even place the piece of furniture in a room that is similar to the one you are designing…with the touch of the screen.

Calligaris Sales Associate is demonstrating how to choose your preferred finish of your furniture and place it in the room of your choice.
The Interactive Totem can assist you in planning the lay out of the room as well as easily interchanging finishes and materials to suit your taste for a particular piece. That is a big help to someone like me who is constantly second guessing myself, and takes forever to make a decision. Having a clear picture of what the furniture would look like in my space makes it easy to move forward.
Psst. Have I mentioned that I’m also half Italian? #ItaliansDoItBetter
