Dining Review

Food in the time of COVID19

Everything about how we enjoy our food has changed because of this virus. If you think about it, we go to the grocery store much less, we have all gotten a little more adventurous in the kitchen, and many of us have stopped dining out in restaurants completely, because of the associated risks of venturing out of the house. We enjoy take out food and delivery more than ever, and since so many of us need an occasional break from kitchen monotony, we are also enjoying the kitchen creations of our friends and their small businesses. Takeout and delivery food in the time of COVID19 has definitely evolved to something we can enjoy in the comfort of our own homes.

Admittedly, I have been a bit more adventurous in the kitchen, and Nino and I even started sharing his homemade pate, tomato jam, and cheesecake, while I have considered sharing my cookies and Sunday Gravy, even if it’s just with our neighbors.

Here are some of the delicious dishes we have been enjoying here at home with delivery kits and  ready to eat meals from homes and dining establishments here in Metro Manila:

Food in the Time of COVID19

Biji Nabe

Biji Nabe‘s Beauty Hot Pot is available for us to order now, through delivery. This Japanese Collagen Hot Pot is a delicious addition to our family table, and actually had the kids asking for more soup.

@bijinnabeph has made it easier to have our Collagen Hotpot delivered to our door. The benefits of enjoying a collagen hotpot include strengthening teeth & nails, helps detox, reduces stretch marks & cellulite, increases metabolism, and improves gut health & hair growth. Wanna know another benefit? I don’t have to cook, because the kids are so excited to cook at the table together that I just have to sit back and enjoy as they take over. Plus, if you haven’t thought of a simple celebration yet, for Father’s Day, this is a treat that is a crowd pleaser, healthy, and feels extra! • • • • Thank you #bijinnabeph for treating us to such a delicious meal. Everyone enjoyed the process, the outcome, and the rice porridge after we finished our hearty hotpot lunch. Gelli loved the porridge the most! • • • • #dineathome #takeout #delivery #delicious #healthy #hotpot #collagenhotpot #beautyhotpot #japanese #soup #exciting #celebration #extra #fathersday #cookingathome #quaratinedining #safety #pickup #easypeasy #delish #familyfav #favoritehotpot #beauty #health #skincare

Berry’s Deli

Born out of the love of a momma who loves to feed her kids their favorite foods without all the chemicals and preservatives that come in store bought brands. Want to keep the kids busy and give them lunch? Check out her Corn Dog Kit too!

My family has been eating my cooking almost exclusively since March 10th. While I try to steer clear of processed foods and canned meats because of Gelli’s food sensitivities, we have some exceptions to the rule. @berrysdeliph creates healthier alternatives to family favorites with minimal preservatives, no food colouring, no extenders, and no sugar. So much so, that my boys even said, “Mom, that was the best hot dog I ever had.” Two thumbs up for #berrysdeliph and preservative free favorites. Besides, who doesn’t LOVE a good chili dog?!? Will be ordering by end of week as we have adjusted to ordering much of what we need for groceries, online now. • • • • #healthyish #healthier #berrysdeli #hotdogs #chilidog #homemade #easydelivery #delivery #order #nitratefree #fun #childhood #delicious #deliciousfood #goodfood #good #food #homemade #onmytable #letseat #kidapproved #momapproved #momlife #quarantine #quarantinelife #cook #cookathome #latepost #chilidog

Prologue

This sister to one of our favorite restaurants that used to be in S Maison, has all the good stuff that we love from this restaurant group. From cookies, to freshly baked French and artisanal breads, to brunch bowl favorites, this resto started offering curb side pick up of their menu. PLUS, you can also enjoy their soups, homemade pastas, and specialty steaks, cheeses and food through Dough & Grocer.

Nino showed me this chart that highlighted the approximate safe times to consider going to movies, eating out, malling, and even traveling in the “new normal,” after ECQ has been lifted. While we know that things will certainly not be the same for a very long time, that also doesn’t mean that we can’t have our favs from @prologue.ph and @epilogue.ph. • • • • Chef @hiromeno has come up with a new way for us to enjoy our favs by offering ready to pick up and cook in the comforts of our own homes. Like this Australian Wagyu Tapa that was so easy to prepare, that I was “extra” in my plating. Cooked within minutes, served with fresh cherry tomatoes, atchara, red egg, and garlic fried rice, this is perfect for any holiday…at home. • • • • What are you having for brunch on our first holiday at home, during ECQ? Raise your hand 🙋🏻‍♀️ if you’d like something like this? • • • • #filipino #filipinofood #filipinofoodmovement #prologueph #epilogueph #food #good #goodfood #delish #brunch #breakfast #brekkie #extra #tapa #garlic #saltedegg #ecq #quarantinecooking #love #yummy #yum #yummyph #letseat #letseatpare #forkspoonmanila #feedfeed #food52 #foodstagram

Growcery MNL

Chef Kat has taken what we all love from the metro and made it easy to shop and receive your products in one day. With little time to process and fill your orders, you can get everything from food trays to ramen, and frozen seafood. Check them out if you want quick delivery and service too.

8 Spoons Party Trays

I learned about 8 Spoons through my friend Minell. She gifted us with ready to cook dishes that were both easy to prepare and crowd pleasers for the kiddos. You can also order ready to eat trays and have them delivered for your intimate celebrations at home. I was thinking of sending these over to a couple who helped Nino and I process some paperwork. I think it’s wonderful to receive a break from cooking when the food is this good!

As things evolve and we adjust, businesses, restaurants, and caterers will all pivot to offer services and products that are conducive to this new normal of #stayinghome. @8spoonspartytrays is another business that has adjusted to meet their clients’ needs by offering easy to cook frozen meals that can be prepared with minimal effort. These Taiwan Chicken Chops came frozen in their marinade and all I had to do was dredge in the breading, pan fry and serve. • • • • #8spoonspartytrays #8spoons #letseat #cookandeat #delivery #fooddelivery #order #orderandcook #cookandeat #taiwanchicken #taiwanchickencrispy #crispy #fivespice #flavorful

House of Lasagna

You guys know, I am not one to really order Italian food because I enjoy preparing the dishes with recipes that have been handed down through the generations on my father’s side of the family. My mother is an amazing cook and admittedly, we ate more Italian food in our household than Filipino, so this is definitely my comfort.

I was so pleasantly surprised with the different variants of lasagna we tried. From the Truffle to the classic beef. ALL delicious, and perfect for a Sunday lunch when served with a salad and some garlic bread. Hello Carbs!

Yehey! I got the day off from cooking lunch after worship, thanks to @houseoflasagna! Whole trays and Half trays can be ordered in 7 different varieties. We all loved both the Beef Lasagna, and the Three Cheese Lasagna equally. Perfect Sunday lunch for the whole family to enjoy with their Salted Egg Chicken Wings. I think I don’t have to cook for dinner either 🤔. Check them out on FB and here on IG so you can take the day off from cooking, too! • • • • #houseoflasagna #lasagna #goodfood #food #good #goodeats #letseat #freshlydelivered #hotandfresh #hot #delivery #quarantinedelivery #manila #dayoff #sunday #sundaylunch

Health Kitchen Manila

Health Kitchen Manila has been preparing meals for those who are quite particular in what they eat. From low carb, to keto and to meals that are delivered to your home with little or no fuss. They have a menu every week you can choose from that is not only delicious but also provides nutritious value for taste.

Because of quarantine and the new circumstances we find ourselves in, they have decided to offer family style meals that are good for 2-3 people. With 3 packs of viands, I was able to feed our family for 2 meals with rice and veggies added. (You guys know I love my veggies)

Nino really loved their adobo and I really loved their garlic bangus.

Sunday is usually my day off from cooking. The kinda day I can take advantage of services like @healthkitchenmnl Family Meals offer… • • • • Serve it up on the freshly dropped Vanya from @pl8andco and we can feel all sorts of fancy with comfort food that is perfect with R-I-C-E. Pass the rice please! • • • • Oh and if you check out www.pl8andco.com right now, you can take advantage of the sale going on where you get dessert cutlery for the first 10 buyers of the REMI! • • • • #yum #yummy #table #tablesetting #pretty #set #ceramic #forthetable #sale #pl8andco #healthkitchenmnl #familymeals #meal #family #delivery #manila #mealplan #deliveredmeals #inthetimeofcorona #letseat #caldereta #beef #beefstew #pinoy #pinoyfood

fill.

When you are not seeing Steph and Lady Badoy putting together beautifully styled spreads for clients in both the event industry or print, you will find this sister foodie pair in the kitchen cooking up something good. Their travels often inspire their offerings and their following is nothing less than cult. From bon cha to chai tea lattes, these ladies put together the whole package. Each of my family members had their fill. favorites, and all of us loved their clever, earth friendly packaging too.

Ramen Santouka

I do not, nor have I ever tried making ramen at home. I know that the earthy bone broth that comes out of good ramen takes HOURS to make, and Ramen Santouka has made it super easy for us. This was a real treat on a rainy day and the kids loved it so much they wanted to make a video to document how easy it was.

If you are going to order, make sure you add Karage to your cart. You will not regret it. In fact, order two packs!

View this post on Instagram

Easy to make and even easier to eat #homecooked Ramen kit can be ordered and delivered frozen to your doorstep. The kiddos loved every part of of our lunch last week AND the karaage was FTW! We may not be able to go out for the Japanese and Korean food that we miss because of GCQ, but we can order in and have fun making it together. Oh-and the servings are so big that Gia and I shared the ramen with some left for Gelli too. Totally worth it. Thanks for sending these over for us to enjoy @santoukaph!

Querica Ph

I had the pleasure of sitting next to Chef Rica during a two day seminar focused on all things from the heart. Rica Bellafleur takes her formal French training back home to her Filipina roots. With dishes like Vegetarian Laing, and Laing Longinisa, This Chef-Mom focuses on her Bacolod roots and aims to share it with the world. Be sure to look for the different varieties of roasted pili nuts. My favorite is, of course, Truffle Pecorino.

Thank you @minell_co and @ricabellefleur for helping me put together such an easy meal for my family! • • • • Vegetarian Laing from @querica.ph and Vietnamese spring rolls from @8spoonspartytrays. I love it when a @bestbuddies_ph event comes toget I love it when a @bestbuddies_ph event comes together so easily. When Sandra Cheng shared that she was willing to share more about her benefits of @easecox.ig essential oils with our buddies, the team and I quickly brainstormed a program flow that was in line with this opportunity to learn.

Grateful for @monicaemanzano who was so game to share a movement segment from @flowretreats. She thought of @curatedgoodfood who generously shared preservative free dimsum which goes perfectly with our healthy sammies from @h2v2partyneedsandcatering. @komida.foods has been a consistent supporter of our mission and events since last year. We are grateful for their continued mission of providing healthy snacks for our events!

We opened with @joanngue.mlg pranayamic breath work, moved on to a yoga flow with Monica, followed by mindfulness with @enzoarmovit, a gratitude circle, and then esssential oils for beginners with Sandra from Easecox Philippines.

What a wonderful morning spent with our Buddies in BGC!

Thank you to everyone who made this event so easy to conceptualize and mount!

Gosh, they grow up so fast.

We bought her new scrubs for the trip. It feels like yesterday when I was buying her green skirts and black Mary Janes for grade school.

Now she’s all grown. On her way to becoming a doctor.
At some point during the evening, @gelliaventajado At some point during the evening, @gelliaventajado turned to me and said “Mom, thank you so much for bringing me here. I love Frozen.”

As Gelli continues to grow up, some things remain the same. Her love for princesses, her love for her siblings, having fun with the family, and music and dance in any form.

What an enchanted evening we had visiting the Samsung Theater in @_circuitmakati to watch the FROZEN film in CONCERT with a LIVE ORCHESTRA. From the moment Gelli hear the orchestra’s accompaniment to the film, to the vocalists who sang along, she was mesmerized.

Thank you @dotdigitalph for inviting Gelli to experience this up close and personal!! She had a blast!
