I probably visit four to five different shops, weekly, when buying my groceries for the family. When I’m planning the menu for the week, I am lucky enough now, to have figured out where I need to buy what ingredients I will need for each of my dishes.
For bulk items I usually go to the same place so that I can save a few bucks when buying toilet paper for a family of six.
For imported ingredients, I usually visit this one grocery store that has lots of little finds in different places. Sometimes if I’m lucky I’ll find something that will bring back childhood memories.
Most of the time, for my fruit, I go to my same suki week after week, even if it’s a little further away.
And for any organic feels or super healthy ingredient that goes into my husband’s smoothie bowls or breakfast shakes, I visit Real Food in Molito.
Real Food is the brain child of four friends who believe that we should “eat good to feel good.” Yes, we are what we eat, people!!
Sourcing more than 90% of everything they sell from local farms, cooperatives, and social enterprises, one can pick up everything from organic fruits and veggies, to free range chicken, and prepared food and snacks all made without preservatives, coloring, or refined sugar.
I have been visiting Real Food for the past year that they have been open, and I enjoy the different daily offerings of fresh vegetables and fruits (that are, in fact, delivered daily) -and the powdered superfood supplements that I add to Nino’s morning smoothie bowls.
I always find new items to play with and still have yet to experiment with the gooseberries I picked up during their anniversary celebration held earlier this week.
Having this grocery store, with all these options is actually a gift to those of us that live in the south. I have gone smoothie bowl shopping with some of my friends, and truly enjoy the courteous and helpful staff who are always willing to explain when I have questions or help with ideas when I’m unfamiliar with a new fruit or vegetable.
Visiting the store is inspiring for me. I have tasted mini juicy cucumbers which reminded me of edamame. I have worked in organic purple yam into Nino’s smoothie bowls. And I have been able to taste my first ever gooseberry.
I honestly, don’t think I could find these healthy ingredients in any other store but Real Food.
Other items you can expect to find when you visit:
- organic maple syrup
- organic spices
- freeze dried fruits
- dried fruits, granola, and kale chips
- vegan & gluten free food options
- whole grain long fermented freshly baked bread
- organic wine
- fresh teas
- read to drink kombucha
