Fans of the American Horror Story series who are familiar with Jamie Brewer, were in for a special treat yesterday when she graced the catwalk for New York Fashion Week under designer, Carrie Hammer.

Jamie Brewer is the first “ROLE Model” with Down Syndrome chosen by Hammer who added a new facet to NYFW by choosing “Role Models, not Runway Models.” This new take on using different models features outstanding and inspirational women with positive contributions to society by asking them to model clothes which also exemplify and personify who they are in real life.

Can I just share that I am now a huge fan of Carrie Hammer and the ground breaking decision she has made to feature Jamie as one of  her ROLE MODELS?

Can I also share that because Pope Francis said it’s ok to cry, I wept tears of joy when I read the first piece published on Facebook from a friend’s wall? This not only means that #ChangingTheFaceOfBeauty has somehow struck a chord in more than the already more than 37 retailers who find it valuable to include people of all abilities in their media and advertising campaigns, it means that the fashion industry has now turned a corner to inclusion which values people for their accomplishments and contributions to society as well!

Thank you so much Carrie Hammer. Thank you from this proud Momma who is looking forward to #ChangingTheFaceOfBeauty here in the Philippines. Thank you from this Momma who will continue to post her toddler’s #ootd in the hopes that Filipino brands will recognize that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, forms, and abilities.
