Last year, I made a promise to take better care of myself.
Besides, eating better, taking time to recharge, and getting more rest, I also set goals for taking better care of my skin and my body. While Father Time has been good to me, I also know that I have to do my part to ensure that I continue to fight the signs of ageing while still staying true to my own personal desire to keep it as natural as possible.
My partner in health and beauty for this promise that I made to myself is Vietura.
Vietura Aesthetic Lifestyle is located in Sofitel Philippine Plaza. Headed by Dra. Mary Jane Torres, Vietura offers non-invasive ways to take better care of your health, and look your best.
While I have explored and written about quite a few of the non invasive treatments that I have tried here on the blog before, I have tried my very best to take notes during the procedures and before and after photos of the results of such treatments.

Mapping out a plan of treatment with the health care professionals at Vietura is exciting because I know I can take better care of myself with their help.
For this feature on Vietura’s Colonic procedure, please do forgive me if I do not share any photos. I’m not so sure you would want to see any photos of the procedure anyway. Would you?
Because this was my first time try this procedure, I was a bit hesitant. I only say a bit, because I just didn’t know what to expect. I scheduled this treatment on a day, that I knew I would be in Sofitel for a cooking class, thinking that I could kill two birds with one stone.
I would learn how to create some new Korean dishes for my family, and I would also detox from binge eating over the holidays. Good idea, right?
The procedure rooms in Vietura are light, airy, clean, and calming. Since I was a little nervous, it helped that the technician who walked me through the procedure was present. At some point, I asked her to leave simply because I was a little embarrassed of the whole process, but she advised me since this was my first time to do a colonic, that she needed to stay with me just to monitor my progress. So, in this case, because it was my first time, there was no room for modesty…my safety and my health comes first.
The idea behind a colonic is simple.
Using a small speculum that is inserted into your bum, 25-30 liters of water that is warmed to your body temperature, flushes out the large intestine by way of gravity. Vietura uses a machine that distributes the cleansing water with the patient at the command of the gauge. So, in this case, I decided by pushing a lever, in accordance to just how much or how little pressure I wanted to feel. So, the water floods the large intestine and pushes out any other fecal matter or debris that has been left due to constipation, poor diet choices, or lack of fiber.
Why would someone want to try a colonic?
Well, there are few reasons why people avail of colonic therapy. If someone has IBS, or constipation, or problems with flatulence, having a colonic can help put everything back in balance. The procedure relieves distention, expels parasites, and can even aid in weight loss if done on a regular basis. Overall, it is a great way to detox. In my case, I chose to invest in this treatment for myself after holiday binge eating!
Having a colonic can:
- cleanse the colon
- exercise the colon muscles
- make the digestive system more effective
- maintain regularity and prevent constipation
- increase energy
- improve concentration
- improve absorption of vitamins and minerals
- improve overall well-being
What to do:
There is little you have to do to prepare for a colonic. In my case, I just started eating a little less in the days leading up to the procedure. I made sure my meals were a little lighter. I did not eat much on the day of the procedure, simply because it was early in the morning.
Once I entered the treatment room, the trained technician was there to assist me. She gave me a gown to put on, and while I was sitting on the large chair like apparatus, she explained each step of the procedure to me. I felt confident because I now, knew what to expect, and reassured because she was there with me. At some point I asked her if she wanted to leave, and told her I would be ok, because it was a little embarrassing on my own part.
What I felt:
Once I began the process, I initially felt discomforting pressure. As I was able to release, the pressure subsided. Watching tv helped pass the time, and I didn’t even realize that we were almost through when I looked up from my show. The whole process took about an hour and half from beginning to end.
After the detoxing treatment I felt so much lighter. But, I didn’t get on a scale. The feeling I describe is an overall feeling…like just not being so heavy, tired, or even lethargic. I noticed later that night that my abdomen was considerably smaller. My tummy was flatter, and when I bent over to brush my teeth at the sink later that night before bed the extra skin that was usually distended from gas or bloatedness was gone. My tummy was jiggling because it was completely empty…AND THAT FELT REALLY GOOD TO SEE.
Amazingly, I didn’t really want to eat too much afterwards…I felt as if I did all this work to try and detox and be healthy, and I just was naturally drawn to make better choices when I was eating.

What I would do differently:
While this procedure is not invasive, it is tiring. My stomach muscles were a tiny bit sore afterwards. I think the only thing I would do differently, would be to go straight home after the next procedure than trying to take a cooking class!
I was ok during the cooking class, just feeling like I would rather be resting at home, taking it easy. It’s certainly not an procedure that I would commit to, if I had a full roster of meetings and events to attend afterwards.
This is the kind of procedure that you schedule for early afternoon and then go home and rest (and probably not even eat dinner) afterwards.
What are the risks?
- infection
- bowel perforation
- cramping
- nausea
- vomiting
With every procedure, there are always risks. This is why you make sure when you are considering a treatment like this, you visit a reputable doctor who has a proven track record. All of the equipment should be sealed, sanitized, and sterlized. Always do your homework. Know your limitations, and be sure to inform the doctors and technicians of any and all symptoms or diagnosis you have before hand.
When I visit an aesthetic clinic for a non invasive treatment, I expect visible results, expert opinions, and trusted service with trained technicians. My doctor should always have my best interest and care as their first concern while delivering a treatment or suggesting a procedure in a way that is comforting and beneficial.
This is exactly why I will work this procedure into my regular routine of care. I felt great after my colonic. By the next day, I had a renewed sense of energy and felt cleaner, healthier, and lighter.
Doc Paolo advised me that if I wanted to do a colonic once a month, for weight loss, that it was safe. In my case, I feel a procedure of this kind would be good for me to do quarterly. I feel encouraged knowing how safe and easy the procedure was with the help of my Vietura family.
